Areola Reduction Surgery - Bakersfield, CA
How Does Areola Reduction Work?
Areola reduction surgery is commonly performed in conjunction with another breast surgery, such as a breast lift or breast reduction surgery. However, it can be performed as a minor surgical procedure on its own, as well. When performed separately from other procedures, the areola reduction surgery may take approximately 45 minutes to an hour.
The surgery itself is a relatively simple procedure. While you are under local anesthesia, your surgeon will make incisions around your areola. The incisions are made to be as inconspicuous and hidden as possible. Then, excess tissue from the areola will be removed. The new areola will be secured with a permanent suture inside your breast which will prevent it from stretching. Using either removable or dissolvable stitches, your surgeon will close the incision site and the procedure will conclude.
How Much is Areola Reduction Surgery?
The price of areola reduction surgery depends on many different factors. To get the best estimate, one must take into account the extent of their procedure, the geographic location in which it takes place, and the experience of the surgeon performing the surgery, among other things. With all things considered, areola reduction surgery on its own can be anywhere between $1,000 to $5,000.
Because there are no real health issues related to the size of the areola, insurance does not cover this kind of procedure, so you will have to pay out-of-pocket.
How Much Does a Breast Lift and Areola Reduction Cost?
When performing an areola reduction in conjunction with another procedure, such as a breast lift, you can expect to pay much more than you would for an areola reduction alone. The best way to determine what you should expect to pay for a breast lift and areola reduction is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Daneshmand directly.
How Long Does it Take to Recover From Areola Reduction?
Most patients who receive an areola reduction are able to return to work and normal activities the very next day following the procedure. However, it is advisable that you wait at least a week before returning to rigorous activity such as exercise or sexual activity.
It is common to experience bruising, numbness, and swelling during this time. This should subside between two to six weeks after the procedure. Any pain you may experience in the days immediately following surgery should be easily manageable with pain medication. Any scarring that remains will be extremely minimal, as opposed to other more invasive procedures such as breast lift scarring.
How Old Do You Have to Be to Get an Areola Reduction?
It is generally recommended that patients wait until they are at least 18 years of age before undergoing areola reduction surgery. This is due to the fact that both women and men are still growing and their bodies are still changing before they reach this age. Before any surgical alterations are done to the body, it’s important to give it enough time to develop naturally, as additional growth after the fact might reduce the surgery’s effectiveness.
Does Your Areola Get Bigger After a Breast Augmentation?
Many people assume that if they receive a breast augmentation to increase the size of their breasts, their areolas will also increase in size. This is not actually the case, as the areolas typically do not change in size following a breast augmentation. It is possible that the areolas might stretch slightly due to the breasts having more volume, but it is not common for them to get significantly bigger.
You may notice some swelling in the weeks following a breast augmentation that can contribute to your areolas looking larger or puffier, but this typically subsides over time.
How to Reduce Areola Size
When it comes down to it, the only way to change the size or appearance of your areola is to undergo areola reduction surgery.
