Cosmetic procedures continue to evolve over time, with numerous advancements in current procedures and the development of completely new ones. Breast augmentation, one of the most popular types of cosmetic surgeries, has seen a wide variation in techniques over the years. We’ve witnessed the popularity of silicone and saline implants surge, but lately, many women seek a more natural method of enhancing their breast size. Thus, we have the fat transfer breast augmentation.

If a fat transfer breast augmentation is something you’re looking for, Silhouette Plastic Surgery can certainly deliver. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Daneshmand today to start your journey towards naturally enhanced breasts.

Pros and Cons of a Fat Transfer to Breast

There are many pros that come with a fat transfer breast augmentation. Perhaps the most obvious is that it’s natural. Not only does a fat transfer to breast look and feel completely natural, but you won’t be putting any foreign substances in your body, either. A lot of women worry about the potential repercussions of silicone or saline implants being placed in their body. With any surgery, there are always risks associated.

Another pro of fat transfer breast augmentations is that it’s not just your breasts that are reshaped – your whole body will be. The procedure uses liposuction from other fatty areas of your body to transfer into your breasts. This means you’ll have double the reward. You can lose fat from certain areas of your body that you’ve been wanting to slim down all while increasing your breast size.

What’s more is that this procedure leaves you with barely any scars. A natural fat transfer is done through very small incisions. The fat will be injected into the breasts through these small incisions while leaving virtually no scarring behind.

Just as there are pros for this method of augmentation, there are also a few cons. First and foremost, a natural fat transfer to breast can only increase your breasts by one cup size. In addition, it does not lift the breasts like implants would. Factors like aging, weight loss or gain, pregnancy, and genetics can cause sagging breasts. A fat transfer cannot prevent this. If you are looking for significantly larger, lifted breasts, this procedure may not be the right option for you.

While a fat transfer does not pose risks like ruptures, there is a possibility that the fat can be reabsorbed back into the body. Your surgeon will do everything they can to prevent this, but the body inevitably does what it does. This can diminish the effects of the enhancement.

Finally, a fat transfer does cost more than a typical implant procedure. This is because you are essentially getting two procedures in one: liposuction and breast augmentation. You can expect to pay anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000 more on this procedure than you might for others.

Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation FAQs

As with any other fat transfer procedure, surgeons expect that a small percentage of the fat will die within the first few days after surgery and another small percentage reabsorbed back into the body. This will likely account for about 20-30% of the fat. However, that means that 70-80% of the fat will remain and settle into your breasts.

Once the fat settles and develops new blood vessels, the healing process is complete and the effects should be permanent. It is important to remember, though, that since this is merely the transfer of fat cells, these fat cells can change over time. With the fluctuations of weight in other areas of the body, your breast size may also fluctuate. This does not mean that the cells have died, but rather that your body is changing.

Because you are essentially getting two procedures done in one, a fat transfer actually tends to cost more than breast implants. The procedure entails the harvesting of fat from other areas of the body. Say the stomach, love handles, or hips, for example. The fat is then injected into the breasts via small incisions. As a result, less fat where you don’t want it and more where you do!

Because of the body contouring benefits of a fat transfer, you can generally expect to pay a bit more than you might for other types of breast augmentation, including implants. This might be anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000 more coming out of your pocket.

The amount of fat needed for a fat transfer breast augmentation depends on how much volume you need for the breast size to look reasonable. Surgeons typically need anywhere from 200-500 cc’s. This should be enough to take your breasts up by one whole cup size.

To get this amount of fat, they may harvest from one area, or multiple different areas, depending on your body type. Cells may be taken from the abdomen, thighs, love handles, arms, and even the neck.

Because it requires a certain amount of fat, women with low percentages of body fat may not be a fit for this procedure.
