Neck Contouring

Neck Contouring in Orange County & Bakersfield

The neck is the most obvious indicator of how old we are. The neck’s rapid aging is due to the fact that the skin is much thinner and more delicate than the skin on our faces. Additionally, our necks undergo the same wear and tear as our faces, but receives much less tender love and care.

As a result, our necks often age much more rapidly than any other body part. If your neck is a major source of insecurity for you, our experienced Orange County plastic surgeon wants to change that.

Call us today at 949-359-8397 to see if one of our neck contouring procedures is right for you.

Neck Contouring Information

What is Neck Contouring?

Neck contouring tightens the skin in the neck, chin, and jawline to combat sagging from aging or fat cells.

How Does Neck Contouring Work?

Neck contouring is generally performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. An Orange County plastic surgeon will make a small incision behind the ears and then will tighten neck muscles and sagging skin through the incisions. As a result, your neck will be smoother, firmer, and more youthful.

How Much Does Neck Contouring Cost?

Because neck contouring procedures are elective and cosmetic, insurance doesn’t cover them. Neck contouring procedures range from $1,200 to $12,700, with the average cost sitting at $5,774 according to the American Society of Plastic Surgery.

Price is based on a number of things, such as:

  • The specific surgeon
  • A surgeon’s experience level
  • The type of procedure
  • Office location

Keep in mind that non surgical neck contouring procedures will be more affordable.

Neck Tightening Procedures

There are many types of neck tightening procedures, surgical and non surgical. All procedures can give you different results.

Surgical Neck Tightening Procedures

Neck Liposuction

If you opt for Orange County neck liposuction or Orange county face liposuction, your surgeon will make a small incision below your chin to suction out excess fat. The entire procedure will last an hour.

Neck Lift

As has been noted previously, a surgical Orange County neck lift happens when a surgeon makes small incisions behind the ears to lift the skin and neck muscles. The surgeon may also remove excess fat in the chin and neck area. It may take several weeks or months for the swelling to disappear before you see your neck lift results.

What Neck Lift Surgery Can’t Do

While a neck lift will make a big change in your profile view, it cannot change your overall appearance. Additionally, a neck lift cannot stop the normal aging process. Just because loose skin and fat is removed, doesn’t mean it won’t gradually come back several years down the line.

Chin Lift

There are a couple ways to remove a double chin, either with a chin tuck or with liposuction. As has been noted previously, liposuction would suck out excess fat in the chin area. Meanwhile, a chin tuck is similar to a neck lift in that the surgeon will make incisions around the ears and under the chin. Through these incisions, the surgeon will tighten the skin and remove fat.

Double Chin Removal Risks

Risks that come with Orange County double chin removal include:

  • Asymmetry in the face (both sides of the face don’t look the same)
  • Results that you don’t like, which may require another surgery
  • Blood clots
  • Excess bleeding
  • Hair loss near incisions
  • Incisions that don’t heal properly
  • Heart or lung problems
  • Nerve injuries that cause numbness or weakness
  • Rippling or skin discoloration

Jawline Contouring Surgery

Jawline contouring surgery, also known as a V-line surgery, reshapes the jaw bone. As a result, a patient’s profile can change drastically. This type of surgery is often the best option for people who feel their faces are too wide or square.

Facial squareness happens for a few reasons:

  • Excessive angle at the posterior part of the mandible below the ear
  • A thick jaw bone
  • Enlarged jaw muscles involved in chewing

Reducing the jaw bone angle as well as modifying the jaw muscles can result in a more feminine face.

Meanwhile, some people struggle with the opposite problem which is a face that is too long and narrow. Jawline contouring surgery can improve this issue as well with facial implants. These implants are typically added on top of the jaw bone, beneath the jaw muscles.

Surgical Neck Tightening Risks

Some risks come with any surgical neck tightening procedure you choose, including:

  • Hematoma, or bleeding under the skin
  • Reactions to anesthesia
  • Thick scarring
  • Blood clots
  • Excess bleeding
  • Infection
  • Skin damage
  • Nerve damage
  • Skin loss
  • Open wounds
  • Redness and swelling

Non Surgical Neck Tightening Procedures

If you’re not looking to go under the knife for a youthful neck and jawline, there are plenty of nonsurgical options as well:

Orange County Botox injections are more commonly used to combat facial wrinkles, but treat neck wrinkles, too. A neck lift using Botox is often called the “Nefertiti lift” because patients have longer and thinner necks afterwards. This is similar to the neck of Egyptian Queen Nefertiti.

Dr. Daneshmand will inject Botox into the platysma band of muscles (the muscles that stick out when flexing your neck) to reduce a “turkey neck” and define the jaw. Results usually last three to four months.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers in Bakersfield, CA are most commonly made of hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxylapatite. The injections improve sagging skin, wrinkles, and skin tone. Dermal filler neck lifts are also called “liquid neck lifts” and last for six to 12 months. Because fillers encourage collagen production, patients can expect smoother, younger looking skin afterwards.

Kybella is an injection made of deoxycholic acid that kills fat cells under the chin and in the neck. These injections are more commonly used by those struggling with a double chin. Similarly to liposuction, once Kybella kills the fat cells, they are gone for good unless a patient gains weight. For best results, many surgeons recommend four to six treatments spaced about one month apart. Patients will start seeing results about four to six weeks after their first injection.

Orange County RF Microneedling uses tiny needles to create “micro-injuries” in the skin to increase collagen and elastin. Additionally, microneedling triggers fibroblast cell growth. This procedure quickly improves the appearance of sun damage and wrinkles with hardly any recovery time.

Orange County ULtherapy is a newer treatment that relies on ultrasound energy to tighten skin. When used on the neck, ULtherapy can lift and tighten deep layers of skin and underlying muscles. This procedure is similar to microneedling in that it stimulates collagen production. Additionally, ULtherapy is a good option for people who want to preview the results of a surgical neck lift. Most patients will see a difference in their neck two to three months after their procedure.

Fractional CO2 laser treatment

Orange County CO2 laser skin resurfacing undoubtedly improves skin quality and skin tone in the neck. These lasers are the gold-standard for skin because of how effectively it treats skin aging as well as how long-lasting the results are.

Ways to Achieve a Younger-Looking Neck Without Surgery

Maybe a surgical or non surgical procedure is not available in your budget right now. Until you can save up enough cash to get the neck of your dreams, here are some ways to keep it looking young.

Protect Your Skin From the Sun

Applying daily SPF 15 sunscreen to your neck is just as important as applying it to your face, especially if you’re looking to preserve your youth. As shown above, the skin on your neck is more delicate than the skin on your face, meaning it can sustain much more sun damage. Daily sunscreen application can prevent sagging skin, age spots, and fine lines.

If you’re wondering: do tanning beds cause wrinkles? The answer is yes, so avoid tanning beds can also keep your face and neck skin looking youthful for years to come.

Add Retinoid to Your Skincare Routine

Retinoids are a class of ingredients that includes retinol, retinyl palmitate, and retinoic acid. These ingredients repair sun damage by reducing fine lines, wrinkles, skin texture, as well as evening skin tone. Retinoids do this by boosting collagen production and stimulating cell turnover.
