Can You Get Rid of a Double Chin?

Yes, there are many different ways to approach the elimination of submental fat. Though a healthy diet and exercise routine may help to reduce a double chin, it is not guaranteed. This is because while weight gain can often contribute to a double chin, it is not always the sole cause. Genetics and aging may also play a role in the development of a double chin, which can make it extremely difficult to eradicate naturally. This is why a double chin reduction through surgery is such a common and highly requested procedure.

Double Chin Surgery: How to Get Rid of Your Double Chin

There is no single surgery designated to reduce double chin fat. Instead, surgeons use a combination of techniques to remove excess submental fat and tighten the area beneath the chin. This may entail Orange County chin liposuction, a Orange County neck lift surgery, Orange County scarless neck lift surgery, or even a Nefertiti lift procedure. Dr. Daneshmand may also recommend a procedure called “submentoplasty.”

The technique used is based on the quality of your skin and your desired effects. Double chin liposuction is a procedure that suctions excess fat from under the chin. A neck lift, also called a lower rhytidectomy, is the removal of excess skin and tightening of the neck muscles to give the face a more defined and contoured appearance. A submentoplasty, on the other hand, combines the use of chin liposuction with small chin incisions aimed at tightening the neck muscles.

All of these procedures can target and significantly reduce the appearance of a double chin. However, those with loose neck skin and not a lot of elasticity may not be a good candidate for either liposuction or submentoplasty. A chin lift is recommended for individuals with this skin type.

How Long Does it Take to Recover from Double Chin Surgery?

The recovery time depends mostly on the approach that Orange County plastic surgeon Dr. Daneshmand used and how invasive it was. For chin liposuction, it will usually take only a few days to a week before you can return to work and most of your daily activities. For a neck lift, however, you may expect to be out for about two weeks.

Immediately after the surgery, the skin on the neck and below the chin may feel very tight. This is due to the swelling and bruising of the area and is completely normal following a procedure of this sort. You may have facial drains in place to reduce the buildup of blood and fluid in your neck. Dr. Daneshmand will remove these drains a day or two post-op.

To quicken the recovery process and avoid any complications, Dr. Daneshmand will prescribe you antibiotics as well as pain medication. He may also recommend applying antibiotic ointments to the incision site and advise you to avoid the sun or excess amounts of water on the area for at least a few days.

How Much Does Double Chin Surgery Cost?

Much like the time needed for recovery following a double chin reduction, the cost for the surgery also depends on the approach Dr. Daneshmand takes. For example, because liposuction is generally quicker and less invasive, you can expect to pay much less for this than you might a chin lift.

Other factors that need to be taken into account include the following:

  • General location of the procedure
  • Surgeon’s fee
  • Facility fee
  • Staff fee
  • Medication fee
  • Anesthesia fee

With all things considered, you may be paying anywhere from a couple thousand dollars to upwards of ten thousand dollars for an Orange County neck contouring procedure.
