Silicone breast implants are made of silicone gel which resembles human fat and has a lifelike feel. How to Choose the Best Implant Size

Choosing your implant size is one of the most important decisions you’ll make in the breast augmentation process. There are a few factors to consider when weighing your options, some of which include your:

We take a combination of different approaches when helping you decide on the size of your implant. First, we’ll take measurements of your chest wall and breasts. Then, we’ll show you some of our client results to get an idea of what you are looking to achieve. We may also have you try on some implants under a bra.

It’s important to remember that cup sizes can be deceptive. That’s why we try to focus on the look and feel that you are aiming for. One way to help physically gauge this is by placing dry rice in a plastic bag. Filling the bag to the desired size can give you an idea of the size and weight of an implant.

We may do this with you in-office but you can also do this at home. As a general rule, one ounce of dry rice would equate to about 30 cc of volume for your implant.

Implant Placement: Above or Below of the Muscle

When considering breast augmentation, one of the pivotal decisions to be made is the placement of the implant—whether it should be positioned above or below the chest muscles. Incision Placement

The most popular incision placement is around the areola, since the scar tends to be extremely inconspicuous. It also makes it easier to control the breast pocket compared to some of the other placements. Meanwhile, the least popular incision placement is the transumbilical incision.

How Breast Augmentation Surgery Works

There are four main steps in breast augmentation surgery: anesthesia, incision, implant insertion, and incision closure.

Anesthesia: the surgeon will either put you under general anesthesia or give you localized anesthesia and sedate you for the duration of the breast augmentation procedure.
Incision: the surgeon will make a small incision to create a pocket for the breast implant. This incision will either be made in the crease under the breast, around the areola, in the armpit, or in the naval.
Implant Insertion: the surgeon will insert the implant based on the chosen implant placement, material, and incision placement, as well as based on the patient’s breast shape.
Incision Closure: the surgeon will close the incision with layered sutures in the breast tissue as well as either sutures, skin adhesive, or surgical tape on the surface of the skin.
